Larry and I had no trouble opening your PDF so it's possible that a software update will cure the problem (, Software Update on Mac OS X). Power Computing Circa 1996 Macintosh clone maker, back when Apple sanctioned other hardware. Just because the MacBook is "new" doesn't mean that the owner has installed the latest updates from Apple. In the shareware realm, there is the MacGhostView application. Of course it's possible that the fault likes partly with both products. Therefore this would suggest that the problem could be with Preview instead of with OOo. I believe, though it's been a long time since I've had trouble, that at least one of the PDF's was very likely not made with OOo. These PDF's are very rare - most open fine in Preview. Like Larry, I have encountered PDF's that will not display correctly in Preview, and so I have installed Acrobat Reader on the Mac as well. On a Mac, a PDF will probably open with an Apple-supplied application called Preview, not in Acrobat Reader.
